LyncShield Offers New Security Solution for Limiting Lync Usage to Devices with MDM

LyncShield, an innovative enterprise solution that secures Lync (Skype for Business) access and authentication while connecting devices (mobiles and desktops) to the corporate network, has launched a new Lync authentication solution that enables corporate clients to restrict their workers to using Lync on managed devices only.

The new Mobile Device Management (MDM) Binding solution limits Lync usage only to devices with MDM installed. The solution is compatible with leading MDM vendors including AirWatch, MobileIron, IBM MaaS360, Good Technology and XenMobile.

LyncShield offers several deployment approaches to fit the specific MDM implementation. The solution can be implemented based on one of the following MDM capabilities:

  • Certificate enrollment
  • VPN access control
  • Mobile Application Management (MAM)

Implementation based on MAM capabilities requires LyncShield’s mobile app for Lync usage. In this case, LyncShield server expects to obtain an encrypted background handshake request from the mobile app once the Lync client starts. As a result, only devices with the LyncShield app can connect to corporate Lync servers.

Implementing LyncShield offers Multi-Factor Authentication by adding two additional factors besides the password. The solution offers a high security level by preventing authentication in case of Man-in-the-Middle (MITM) attacks.

“One of the most common requirements of enterprise customers is to limit Lync access to managed devices with installed corporate MDM software, and verify that the device meets the company’s security requirements,” said Guy Eldan, CEO of AGAT Software, which developed LyncShield.

“Customers want to verify that using Active Directory credentials for Lync is only done from a device that is compatible with the company’s security policy. Our unique product suite offers several options to allow adoption of a variety of MDM deployments and has already been installed by some of the world’s most recognized brand names.”
